Frozen Chicken – A New Definition in Food Culture
A chicken that has been recently butchered and has not stored at a temperature below 26o F is known as fresh chicken, and those which you buy from the supermarket in packets are called Frozen Chicken. Sometimes, you even store the fresh chicken in your freezer. While buying iced up chicken all you need to do is see whether the chicken is cold to touch or not. Also, you need to verify the expiry date before buying the packet of chicken. The frozen ones are going highly popular all over the world. Started in the western culture this has already made its way into the developing economies. Busy lifestyle everywhere has made the use of frozen chickens increasingly popular, as it is time-saving as well as convenient.
The main benefit of Frozen Chicken is that the freezing process prevents bacterial growth. The process is also helpful to slow down the chemical changes known as rancidity which cause deterioration of the meat. Freezing chicken can therefore maintain the freshness and hygienic quality for a long period spanning from six months to a year depending on the quality of meat. The quality and preservation should be such that on thawing the meat would appear as fresh as recently butchered. Frozen chickens are fresh, wholesome and safe to consume.
Most people prefer Frozen Chicken, because they do not require the thorough cleaning process that is done with freshly butchered chickens. One must clean and freeze a freshly cut chicken to avoid germs growth and bacterial augmentation. So, one needs to store one’s chicken at a temperature below 26o F to maintain its proper quality. With chickens you buy frozen, you get the quality thing without investing a lot of time and energy.
An issue that confuses most of us is for how long we can store a chicken. The fact is, with raw chicken, uncooked and cut in pieces the preservation period can easily be around nine months. Whereas, uncooked whole chickens can easily be stored for at least a year. The freezing time also varies with the state of the freezer and the way of packaging. One the other hand, cooked chicken can be stored for a maximum period of four months. Stews and soups can be preserved upto three months. Cooked chicken is however better not be stored for too long as it gets prone to reduced taste and flavor along with getting contaminated.
Frozen Chicken is dominating the present food market like anything. Wherever glances reach people can see versatile food preparations with the chickens those have been frozen. A large variety of frozen chickens are available based on their cut like chicken drumstick which can be readily used to cook tandoori chicken, fried chicken etc. There are frozen chicken sausages retaining protein and minerals essential for a healthy body growth. One can buy boneless chicken breast to cook his exquisite chicken breast as well as chilly chicken. Then, there are frozen chicken fillets used in preparing chicken cutlets. In short, Frozen Chicken has opened many new scopes to taste chicken better, preserve it better and get a better value.
