Process of making Diamond Rings

Diamonds were first mined in India in ancient era. Pliny the Elder, a Greek historian mentioned the availability and mining of diamonds in India. Today diamonds are also mined in Canada, Russia, Australia and Botswana.

In this worldwide jewelry industry today, in order to make Diamond Rings, the process used is long and arborous that increases the cost of the diamonds as well. Special treatments are done on the diamonds, both synthetic diamonds and natural diamonds, in a treatment called Diamond Enhancement. They are done to increase the beauty of the diamond. In the diamond enhancing treatment a laser drill is used to remove any impurity or unwanted inclusions on the diamonds after which sealants are applied to the stone to fill in the cracks in case they occur during the process. Diamond Enhancement also includes treatments for improving the color of the white diamonds, and treatments for giving a custom color to the diamond if it is so desired.

Perhaps the final step in making Diamond Rings is to apply a coating. This is done with the help of a diamond stimulant. This diamond stimulant is applied to further make the diamond shine or in other words to enhance its ‘diamond-like qualities.’ An example of a diamond stimulant is a kind of Diamond-like Carbon which is a carbonaceous and shapeless material that shares a few features similar to a diamond. Coating is done to transfer some of the diamond-like properties from the Diamond-like Carbon to the diamond gemstone. One instance of such treatments is the Raman Spectroscopy method.

For making Diamond Rings a lot of treatments are first needed to be done on the gemstones. As said before these treatments are done to enhance the shining of the diamond, which directly increases the value of the diamond. Treatments are of many kinds and vary from company to company, but in general they are all widely used.

The foremost treatment process is that of Heating. This is done to improve the clarity and color of the diamond. This process has long been used by gem cutters, miners and others for hundreds of years. If the heating is done for a short time citrine is used. If the heating is done for a long time then the substance is done with ametrine. Heating enhances the color and shades and shining quality of a diamond. Heating at low temperature is also done for removing the impurities and dirt. During heating as part of an industrial process, the diamond is protected by a substance like boracic acid. Unless this is done, the diamond can and in most cases does get permanently burnt on the surface. In some cases it even gets fully burnt.

The next step of making Diamond Rings is that of treating the gemstone with radiation. This is done to change the color at times or to enhance the beauty of the diamond. For colored diamonds this step is very important. After the radiation is done on the gemstones it is waxed, after which it is fracture filled, thus giving the diamond its final shape.
